How to wear Alexander Wang’s style without breaking the bank or waiting for November 6Publié par Marie-Eve Rochon le 13 avril 2014
News broke Sunday morning. Alexander Wang is the next designer to collaborate with H&M. The association makes perfect sense. For the Swedish retailer, capsule collections by acclaimed designers drive sales right up. For Wang, it’s one new impressive accomplishment to add to his already well-rounded CV. At only 30 years old, he has won the prestigious CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund Award and been appointed as creative director of Balenciaga.
But what’s in it for you – the consumer? These collaborations are not the time to stock up on high-quality goods. Rather, they usually allow fans to buy into a brand’s design signature at a lower price point. In the case of original labels (think Maison Martin Margiela for H&M), it creates a unique opportunity to purchase clothes and accessories that are not available elsewhere (at this price point at least). Alexander Wang is a whole other story. He is one of the main instigators of the « sports chic » trend that has been all the craze these past seasons (and again this summer). His aesthetic has already been copied and reproduced by every fast fashion chain out there. Thus, his style is already available on every street corner, and at prices that won’t leave you broke.
No need to wait for November 6 (when the Alexander Wang x H&M collaboration will hit stores) to wear neoprene, leather and crop tops. See below for multiple suggestions of affordable alternatives to Wang’s style – and the real deal, in case your budget allows it.
